Day 5: A Little of Column A, A Little of Column B
I won and lost today. Some good stories, some bad. Let’s start with the bad. I played in 4 sit n’ gos with bad results, but ended up thanks to a few good rounds at a cash table. In the end, the memorable parts were these following hands.
Sad Cowboys
I celebrated when I got pocket kings and the flop rewarded me with a third one. I saw the possible straight on the board, but no one could have it yet. I’m going to price them out of a draw by going all in and giving them, at best, 2 to 1 odds on the draw. I was excited when I got a caller only to have this happen:
Top Pair vs. The Gutshot
This time I don’t have a great hand, but I do have top pair and a decent kicker. The best anyone can have is the gutshot straight-draw. No one would call my all-in bet with that, would they?

Off By One
How about this hand. This is my fault in so may ways.
- I shouldn’t play this hand at all, except all I had to do was complete the small blind.
- I shouldn’t even do that because I have the worst position.
- Then I play top pair with a bad kicker aggressive.
But it wasn’t that bad a kicker. Just one rank too low.
Scary Board
I did have this scary winner. I semi-bluffed (or does this even count as a semi-bluff) at the turn and was called with the scariest board ever. How did I win?
My Sick Call
But this was the sickest call I’ve ever made and I don’t know how I made it. I swear to you that I knew I had the best hand, but I can’t really say how. These was just something off about the way this guy bet. He had bet hard at every point and at the end he was all-in for a significant portion of my chips with the 2 sixes on the board, I was worried. He had represented like he had pocket aces, kings, queens or jacks the whole time. I thought it was possibly a mistake, but I made the call.
This was a decent day for me, despite all of these beats. In the end I think I was right around even for the day.
