Day 12: A Good Day
Not much to report today. Mostly good news. I played mostly cash games for low stakes and for small amounts of money. At one point I had my bankroll within 6 dollars of being even, but I ended with my bankroll at around $10 from even. I think that puts me at +$7-9 for the day.
A big help was a late night 2nd place in an 18-person sit n’ go. I should have won, but it turns out my heads up game is a bit anemic. I’ll have to work on that.
Understandable, but frustrating
The following hand happened when we were down to 4 in that 18-person tournament. StickyStacks and I were the only two really in contention for a long time. For the most part we had avoided each other and picked on everyone else. A few hands earlier I took him on and had put a hurting on him when I picked up 2 pair on the flop and a full house on the turn. He must have had something but must have seen the full house when I went all in on the flop after he raised.
This hand came when I had him outstacked 2:1. He had been stealing a lot of blinds from the short stacks by raising to 3 times the BB. In this case I called with the 2s. When he flopped 2 pair, he made what I would consider a mistake by checking. I checked along with him because I’m not about to bet out to a check with this tiny pair. I wanted to see a 2 on the flop and then punish him. At this point I’m going to pretty much fold to any bet. But then the 2 came on the turn and now I have three of a kind. He bet out about 1/3 of the pot and I looked and decided that he hadn’t been chasing a flush, so I put him all in. He called.
I think this is a very good call for him, he has, by my count 13 outs (any club, either of the 2 Qs or either of the 2 5s). That’s around a 1/4 chance of getting a big win that puts him back in it. And as you can see he got what he needed.
After this hand we were pretty much even and ultimately we ended up heads up practically even. I played particularly poorly heads up and he whittled me down within around 15 minutes
